These wheels are exceptionally light disc brake carbon wheelsets built for everyday road riding. The rim features a hooked rim bed designed for road and all-road use. With the higher pressures used for those tires, a hooked rim more securely holds the tire in place in the event of hitting a pothole or extreme forces of cornering and sprinting. The 36 Road Disc SL wheelset is engineered from carbon ply through final spoke tension to deliver ultra-low weight with the stability, durability, and serviceability expected from Boyd Cycling.
The rim's strength comes from shape, not just material. Spoke bed structure, bead walls, and local reinforcement are designed to handle tension and real-world hits. Aerospace grade carbon fiber is used in strategic areas to increase strength and impact resistance while allowing the weights to be minimized, bringing the rim weight down to just 310 grams. The Grade 54 hubs feature a straight pull flange and a high strength steel ratchet with 54 teeth giving 6.6 degrees of engagement. Enduro ABEC 5 bearings provide precision and durability, ensuring the hub operates smoothly under demanding conditions.
Every wheel is handbuilt and goes through five different work centers before being quality checked for true, run out, and spoke tension. This process includes multiple tension cycles, stress relief, and final balance checks to ensure the wheels remain running true.
